Mullum malarum

Podigai TV...The name of this Tv channel gives u nostalgic moments of famous programmes like "vayalum vazhvum","Oliyum Oliyum", "Malarun Ninaivugal", "Chitrahaar"..and more.. Once upon a time before 90's, when the private channels got into force..it was DD who had the monopoly..and after 90's DD has virtually lost all its viewership...thanks to SUN TV , JAYA TV,etc..which had new contents and new dose of presentations and programmes...

But after really a long time i started watching this DD tamil channel..Podigai TV..still the same old sets, actors, and name boards...still the same old doordarshan..but this time it has some difference in content..i can see DD is trying to bring in few innovations to its programming.. one such example is the programme where they take a very common day-to-day topic... and get opinions on this from the general public..Its a welcome relief from the ever increasing cinema non-sense that gets beamed in all other private channles..nowadays i feel completely frustrated seeing similar reviews..same movies....same junk interviews with current cinema affairs...Ofcourse not to mention the azhugai soaps like mettiolli,etc...

DD has indeed started delivering in good contents , but still lagging years behind in presentation.. Have u guys ever watched programme named "Surabhi", that used to be telecasted in DD National Channel.. Similar programme is now been done for tamil audience..with more emphasis south indian culture...its a refreshing change to all non-sense that gets telecasted on other private tamil channels.. Its very informative and showcasts the art form of south india very well..

Last Sunday i also watched a beautiful "malarum Ninaivugal" from Director Mahendra...a trend-setter in his times and also for the current contemporary tamil cinema..his style of presentation and story adaptation saw a new generation of emerging technicians who worked under him..namely balu mahendra, ashok kumar(cameraman), and more...

Its was a news to me when mahendran revealed that all his movies were adaptation of novels and short stories in early eighties.. His handling of Rajinikanth in Mullum malarum showed how well versed the actor is ...and that actually paved way for the emergence of a super-star..mahendran mentioned in his interview that during the time this film was formulated.. rajini was known for his side-actor / villain roles, and casting him in this character of Kaalai in Mullum malarum...where the protogonist displays the character of a rough rural guy who has inner soft mind of love and affection towards his sister...Its a complex character that has a negative hero quotient in it ..still shows lots of impeccable affection towards his sister shoba ... Rajni palyed this role with utmost ease..few movies like this have only tried to show how well this super-star can act .. its really sad that there were very few directors who made good use of his talents..

Who can forget the climax of this film.. when shoba and the whole village gangs up against Rajni's wishes to get her married with sharthbabu (engineer)...and when shoba leaves her brother alone with lots of agony .. to go against her beloved brother's wishes... thanks to Raja's immaculate adaptation of folk instruments ... Still the background music gives a great compliment to the artists expressions and the director's handling of screen play at this point.. Raja uses a drum/dholak sort of instruments with the same rhythm..."dum dhak . dum dhak".. first as shoba leaves her brother and goes along with the marriage party..the rhythm starts with a slow tempo... as the marriage party proceeds, the camera focuses on shoba (weeping) and rajni's expresessions ..and with the rising tempo of the same rhythm..one gets really attached to the scene and waits for the event of climax to happen.. when the tempo reaches its peak..shoba returns to her brother's welcoming hug and weeps on his shoulders...what a classic BGM to a fitting climax from mahendran's screenplay..If not for raja's music, Mullum malarum would have been unfortunately cast as one of those art movies... thanks to Raja, that mahendra's sculpture got all the beautiful colouring it required ..

With due respects to the author..i just came across this post in google..while i was searching for musical reviews on Mullum malarum...Sharing it for the wider audience thru my blog ( if there are ppl who look at my blog ! ;-( )...
Just dont miss this ..

Hope to see some comments this time for sure... :-)

Cricket Controversies

To my beloved Cricket Fanatics...
Iam trying open a Pandora's box here ...

Has Ganguly reached the end of his road to his captaincy ??
Does he still have enough weapons in his armour to make an impression against the opposition.. with his awful technique in facing short balls..which he had fortunately managed to overcome all these years...partly because there were not enough good bowlers who knew how to bowl to him properly at the right placs..and partly because once the bowlers feed his offside..they get beaten arnd the park ...and in the process loose their mind and donot attck him with enough short balls...

All said and done..one has to admit that Ganguly has done a lot to this Indian team than any other captain before... with the master blaster tendulkar at the helm..he was keen in bringing in only ppl from his part of the state ...specially bombay blasters..

But ganguly..acted like a real Maharaja on the field.. he took into to confidence all youngsters in the team . and forged a formidable team.. yes its true that all credit shld not go to him..rather the selectors were also responsible for these players to come to the fore...

But its surely Ganguly's leadership that helped the youngsters like shewag,bhaaji,yuvi,kaiful,zaheer,nehra,pathan,kiddy-patel,...all come to the center-stage...inspite of their initial failures...ganguly gave them more chances to perform on the field ...

Its sad that once a Maharaja in his own elements ...now he is finding it hard to regain his past glorified batting nuances on field...

Probably its time for him to consider leaving his captaincy to dravid and try to enhance his batting skills..

Maybe... once he is back to his form..he can take back the captaincy again..

Post your comments .. and let the debate begin...

PROMISES ARE MEANT TO BE BROKEN

Promises are meant to be broken...this is my theory !!

Many intances in my life .. i have always felt .. whether there wld be ppl in this world who do things like what i do ..Iam trying to put few instances... if there are ppl who feel the same or diff with some more spiced up narration to these feelings.. join me..

Out of all promises i make to myself.. the following are the prominent ones i break the most..

1. EARLY MORNING PROMISE.... Everyday i want to wake up eraly and be a surrusurrupu person..every night before going to bed i try to promise myself that i would get up early the next morning.. but invariably some strange drama extends my imaginary cinema shots in my dream.. and by the time i realise..time is already 7:30 am !! Oh no.. i did this again.. but i wld never give up..and my promise continues for the next morning ... again !!

2. EVENING PROMISE..Keeping fit... Every day .. a mere look at my ever increasing thoppai.. reminds me abt the need to stay fit and lean... if not like arnold shwaznegar...atleast stay fit with a flat stomach .. without the ever increasing thoppai.. and everyday i assure myself that i would go for a walk or a jog in the evening .. this i start the morning with few exercises ( i think bending 10 times is also an exercise )... and bingo.. after just 5-10 min of this session.. i feel really tired !!.. there it goes .. my interest winds up and i pacify myself that i would compensate my lapse with the evening walking session... but in my world nothing is for certain.. just when u make up ur mind to keep up the evening promise..there come ur boss .. sending an email at 5 pm to take care of some urgent issue..or there comes ur ever-pestering friend of yours asking you to give some company for dinner.... bingo.. all ur plans for the evening walk goes to drain ... and promises continue for the next day..!!

3. WEEKEND PROMISE... my house is in a bad shape.. things are completely shabby..if my mom comes back and sees my room cupboard... i would have to handle a few thittus :-( ...so let me make sure i will clean up things on this weekend.. i sincerely draw plans for the schedule and make a promise that i would acheive the target definitely by this weekend... the comes the friday night.. invariably the very thought of approaching weekend makes me very happy on a friday evening.. i normally stop working after friday afternoon.. u have to understand that this is human nature !! :-)... so friday evening will be occupied with some movies or some stupid good old cricket match in ESPN.. where they keep repeating shewags / 10dulkars centuries.. handful wins india ever had abroad... then i re-visit my plans for the weekend house cleaning work..my mind reminds me of the upcoming challenges i need to complete for the weekend... but i say to myself.. "common.dude.. its friday night .. just chillout.. watch some tv till night and its ok to get up late on saturday.. for god's sake its weekend...".
there goes the internal saathaan... before i realise its saturday afternoon.. bloody-hell all my plans are going the other way round...and by the time i go ..eat.. have my haircut..its evening...hmm..now what to do.. i say to myslef.. "dont worry yaar.. there is one more day to complete the task..".. and by the time i sleep .. after watching the intersting stuff that gets broadcasted on saturday night tv channel :-).. its 3 am in the morning... and i never knew when i slept...and again by the time i wake up .. visu's arratai arrangam is on the verge of getting over..its 11:30 am... i say to myself..that i wld stay home whatever happens.. and get my job done..so with some initial thought before cleaning i decide to first wash my clothes... and do all preparation to put in the washing machine.. by this time iam hungry..c hunger waits for none.. and the very thought of having a good tasty andhra/tamil style food in nandini hotel..increases ur saliva secretion and ur hunger too..with some effort , i start the washing machine..proram it to finish the job in 2 hrs.. [ i might not be punctual..but i expect that for sure from my 15k washing machine ] . i have brunch...and come back ..hoping i will have a short nap and start my work.. there comes my neighbor at 5 .. waking my siesta..asking for news paper...!! but i realise then that power went off few hrs b4 and my clothes in washing machine is just stayed half washed..oh no..!! and doing the rest of washing by myself takes time till 6...then comes a call from my friend..who tempts me saying he has got a ticket for a movie..without any hesitation i agree to be there at the theatre at 7 pm.. and i say to myself..."it hardly takes half-an-hour to clean up..lemme come back and do that ..now let me enjoy the weekend bash b4 i get into the hectic work on monday.."...so there i go ... my return back home takes 10 pm and ...there goes another promise that was never fulfilled...my house still remains shabby ..but who cares.. lemme do that for the next weekend !...
